Teaching Philosophy

Chemistry and math are notoriously "scary" subjects. They have a reputation of being boring, dry, difficult, and maybe even dangerous sometimes. I believe that as a teacher of chemistry and math, it is my responsibility to make these subjects fun and accessible to students through inquiry based labs and activities which utilize technology that students already use in their daily lives. In getting to know my students, I can discover their interests and tailor those activities to them in a way that will make the material relevant to their lives. And finally, in consulting with teachers in other subjects at my school, I can develop lessons that encompass cross-cutting concepts so that students can see connections between what they are doing in my classes and what they do in others.
